Jevy Mae F. Agudo (Ikit Agudo)
Siargao Island, Philippines
Professional Filipina surfer, surf instructor, model, and community activist. Grew up on the ocean with a family of fisherman. Despite disapproval from her mother, her and her sister (Aping Agudo) learned to surf from her brothers. As she’s gained popularity winning surf competitions she’s used her online platform to build up her small community. During Typhoon Odette (2021) that destroyed most of Siargao Island and other neighboring islands. She worked with the community to help rebuild 100+ houses from scratch, provided construction materials to over 1,000+ families, and coordinated 6 boats of fisherman to distribute relief goods to over 10,000 families. With huge success the island has recovered 90%.
As a female surfer, “age, race, and social status shouldn’t be a hindrance for us women to excel in certain sports we are good at. Always aim high for your goals and dreams in life. Stay passionate and keep doing what you love despite what other people may say. No, it’s not gonna be an easy road but keep on keeping on!”
